Opening Friday October 5th, 6-8 pm

We are pleased to present our first solo exhibition by Thomas Dozol, I like You Better With Static Noise, featuring silkscreen prints on both paper and wood.

Film photography is the first step in Dozol’s process. The image’s context is then erased, and a body floated in white space or highlighted by loud dayglo or toned-down geometric shapes. Subtle optical shifts are rendered by restrained visual strategies, such as repetition or slight offsets of two layers.

More than portraits, these images are photographs of bodies as icons, made into twodimensional forms by rupturing of both ground and depth-of-field. They are nude, faceless, and the only social indicators are haircuts and some tattoos. Appearing almost as sleepwalkers, the figures list to the side or sink into their own weight, as if in response to a displacement from the real world.

Thomas Dozol lives and works in New York, NY. He has shown internationally and within the United States. Recent solo exhibitions include White Cubicle Gallery, London; Mais Soma, Sao Paolo; and envoy enterprises, New York. I Like You Better With Static Noise will be his first solo show at Jack Hanley Gallery.
