Jack Hanley Gallery East Hampton is pleased to present Living in a World of Holes with the Hole Makers, an exhibition of new works by artist couple Chris Johanson and Johanna Jackson. The exhibition features paintings and drawings by Johanson and ceramic sculptures, bowls and lights by Jackson. The show also includes a collaborative table and lamp. Many of the works in the show were fabricated by the artists while on the road from California to East Hampton, coming together to form a peaceful, mellow, and collaborative exhibition.

Johanna Jackson (b. 1972, Springfield, MA) currently lives in Portland, Oregon. Her work has been the subject of numerous solo and two-person exhibitions including: 12.26, Dallas; Adams and Ollman, Portland; CANADA, New York; the Journal Gallery, Brooklyn; Human Resources, Los Angeles; Portland Museum of Modern Art, Oregon; and a video commission for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Additionally, her work resides in the permanent collections of The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; The Portland Museum of Art, The Henry Museum, Seattle and the SFMOMA, San Francisco. This marks Jackson’s second exhibition with 12.26.

 

Chris Johanson (b. 1968, San Jose, CA) currently lives in Portland, Oregon. His work has been the subject of several solo museum exhibitions including the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; MoCA Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles; SFMOMA, San Francisco and Malmö Konsthall, Malmö, Sweden. Group institutional exhibitions include Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, CA; McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, San Francisco, CA; Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece; Museum of Contemporary Art, Santa Barbara, CA; Whitney Biennial, New York; Berlin Biennial; Istanbul Biennial; New Museum, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Drawing Center, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; SITE, Santa Fe, NM; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Seattle Art Museum; Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada; and CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco. Johanson is represented by Altman Siegel, San Francisco  and Mitchell-Innes & Nash, New York, Nicolai Wallner, Copenhagen, Denmark and The Modern Institute, Glasgow, UK.
