NADA House

Governors Island
New York, NY

May 2 - August 4, 2019
On view every Friday -  Sunday from 11am - 5pm

Jack Hanley Gallery is pleased to present The Shadow World of Butterflies by Emma Kohlmann installed at NADA House, the organization’s second off-site exhibition on Governors Island.

NADA House features 45 artists from NADA Member galleries and non-profits within 34 rooms across three historic, turn-of-the-century Colonial Revival houses. The collaborative, public exhibition is free and open to the public every weekend, Friday through Sunday, 11am–5pm from May 2, 2019 to August 4, 2019.

On view in Building 403, Emma Kohlmann’s site-specific mural retraces the subconscious through a symbolism drawn from erotica, ancient statues and gurines, or mythological narratives. Androgynous nudes touching each other or themselves, butterflies, plants and wondrous animals with human faces all coexist in Kohlmann’s dreamscapes that are fantastical and deeply spiritual.
